Akon and Michael Jackson

Multi-platinum selling vocalist and producer Akon recorded several tracks with the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, which may never see the light of day.

In a recent interview with the singer, Akon discussed MJ's creative process, saying that he was never completely satisfied with his output.

"He was never satisfied. Like, we might have passed up ideas that I know for a fact were smashes. He'd be like, 'Nah, nah - we got to come up with something better,'" Akon explained. "We can never do better 'cause his expectation was so high. It was almost to a point where we would have to get a record and I would believe in it and just put it out, 'cause it would never come out 'cause he always believed we could do better."

Despite his high standards, Michael Jackson and Akon were able to collaborate on a large amount of music due to their similarly rigorous work ethics.

"A lot of our memories in the studio is a lot about work, because he was so focused on trying to get the right material out that we didn't really play around," Akon told MTV News. "Like, we talked, but we rarely joked, because at that moment, regardless of what we were doing it's like, 'Lets get serious and really do what we came here to do.'"

While the two artists may not have enjoyed the deep personal relationship that Michael had with some other collaborators, Akon said they shared a similar interest in melody.

"It was all about the melody, 'cause we both were melody guys," he said. "Everything started with the melody. We both would hum the melody and try to create the biz around it."

There is no word as to what will become of Jackson's various collaborations with Akon.

MTV and VH1 will be airing a 'This Is It' premiere special tonight (October 27) at 8:30 PM, to coincide with the opening of the Jackson film's limited theatrical release.
