After years of speculation, U.K. rapper Lady Sovereign has finally cleared up the rumors regarding her sexual orientation.

The diminutive former Def Jam signee has always avoided directly discussing the subject, only recently hinting that she "dated girls" and engaged in several same-sex sessions while shooting popular reality show 'Celebrity Big Brother.'

Now, in an interview with with lesbian magazine Diva, the 24-year old MC has confirmed that she is, in fact, a lesbian. Lady Sovereign would have come out sooner had she not been advised by her publicists to keep her orientation quiet to avoid damaging her career.

"Magazines would always ask about [her sexuality] but would get stopped by my publicists," Sov said in the interview. "It was my choice, too, because I was a bit worried about it -- but now I don't really give a s--- ... You can't hide away forever. It's just stupid and now I've come out I feel a lot more comfortable with myself. But it was a bit scary back then, because some people do have horrible opinions."

Though Lady Sovereign is hardly the first musician to come out, her announcement is courageous given hip-hop's enduring homophobia. Sov's second album, 'Jigsaw' was released last year.
