Chris Brown Apologizes for Using Gay Slur

Chris Brown has been known to put his foot in his mouth a time or two, but he has no problem admitting when he’s wrong.

Not long after TMZ posted a video of Brown spewing a gay slur to the paparazzi, who he believed called a parking attendant to give him a ticket, the singer took to his Twitter page to apologize for his words. “I have total respect for the Gay community and my intention was not to insult anyone in it,” he wrote after the video of him calling the papz “gay” as an attempted insult, hit the ‘Net.

While the backlash from his comments hasn’t been catastrophic, the Human Rights Campaign lashed out against Brown for his words. “Invoking words meant to demean gay Americans is just plain unacceptable. Chris Brown should know better,” a rep for the HRC told TMZ. “He irresponsibly neglected to recognize the impact of his words and the unacceptable message that it sends to couple the word gay with negative actions.”

This latest outburst is the most recent in several episodes in which Brown has showed off his fiery temper. Last week the 22-year-old got into a heated argument with members of the group Odd Future, after resident crooner, Frank Ocean likened him to Ike Turner, the abusive ex-husband of singer Tina Turner.

Brown has since moved on from both incidents that have put him in a negative light, tweeting to his fans earlier today (June 23) that he is excited for his performance at this year’s BET awards, airing on the cable network Sunday (June 26) at 8PM EST.
