Rapper Kevin Gates is catching a lot of flack for kicking an 18-year-old female fan in the chest at a concert in Florida. After being charged with battery over the incident, the New Orleans native decided to addressed the situation through a song.

The 29-year-old rhymer released “The Truth,” a haunting track where, in his first verse, he defends himself and explains why he felt justified in kicking a woman. According to the lyrics, Gates claims that the woman was groping him repeatedly and he warned her to stop. Interestingly, he raps on the hook, “You should have respect for yourself. You a queen and you wasn’t respecting yourself.”

While we understand that he was annoyed by her tugging on his pants, kicking her in the chest wasn't the best solution. Also, you lose respect from your fans because, quite honestly, that was a despicable act.

Footage of Gates’ kicking incident went viral and inspired thousands to sign an online petition to ban the "IDGT" rapper from performing in Florida. As for now, Lakeland, Fla. police have submitted the battery report to the State Attorney’s Office for review.

And for those who continue to threatened Gates on social media, he left a special message for them on the song: “To all my haters, you make me invincible.”
