Kevin Gates has been in prison since 2016, but he seems to be in good spirits. On Wednesday (Sept. 6), Gates posted an open letter to his fans on his Instagram account.

In his brief letter, the Louisiana native compares himself to the greats who have been imprisoned but came out a brand new man.

“A great person is measured by all of the great test they can undergo and still remain true to who they are,” he writes. “With that being said, ‘I’m Him.’” At the end of his letter, he writes, “I love you all. In closing I remain the same.”

In addition to the letter, Gates dropped a new video for "What If." The Walu-directed visual takes place in Kevin’s hometown of Baton Rouge, La., and follows a young man's life that parallels the rapper's own rough and humble beginnings in Louisiana.

Although Gates is incarcerated, he's planning to drop new music this month. The "I Don't Get Tired" rapper will release a new project titled By Any Means 2 on Sept. 21. The 14-song collection boasts previously released tracks, “No Love” and “What If," as well as new material. By Any Means 2 is the sequel to the 2014 effort of the same name.

You can pre-order Kevin Gates' new album right now on iTunes.
