Bunji Garlin is still one of the most famous figures to come out of the island of Trinidad and Tobago thanks to his contributions to soca. The soca great turns 37 years old today (July 14).

Garlin actually comes from a family of soca singers. His father, Superblue, was a successful soca artist back in his day, and Garlin's second cousin, Patrice Roberts, often sings alongside fellow singer Machel Montano.

The "Differentology" creator didn't let lineage overshadow him. He's managed to release a whopping 10 albums throughout his 16-year career and has remained a mainstay on Soca Gold (a yearly collection of the best soca songs). In addition to collaborating with many of the Caribbean's stars, Garlin has expanded past the islands to also work with the likes of A$AP Ferg.

He's also one of the Caribbean artists who've achieved worldwide attention. He performed at Central Park's SummerStage festival and at the U.K.'s Glastonbury festival earlier this year.
