Wale Releases ‘Eleven One Eleven Theory’ Mixtape

Upon racking up his millionth Twitter follower, Washington, D.C. rapper Wale released his new mixtape, ‘The Eleven One Eleven Theory’ on Wednesday (August 18), as promised.

The Rick Ross signee, who is preparing to drop his sophomore release ‘Ambition,’ via Maybach Music on Nov. 1 (11/1/11), has released a mixtape each year consecutively since his 2005 debut ‘Paint a Picture.’ To give you an idea of how far he’s come, this time around his tape received so much traffic, it reportedly crashed host HulkShare.

The 18-track offering features appearances from singers Lloyd and J. Holiday and comedian Lil Duval, over some decent production by DJ Toomp, Hit-Boy and Lil C, but fails to match up to previous efforts like his clever, ‘Seinfeld’-inspired ‘The Mixtape About Nothing,’ or 9th Wonder-produced ‘Back to the Feature.’

While ‘The Eleven One Eleven Theory’ covers familiar topics from haters and Twitter to haters on Twitter, the clubs, real women, crazy women, professional women, the Miami lifestyle and how hard it is to be a rapper or athlete, he does so without using any of his usual slickness or wit. It’s almost as if Wale’s signing to MMG has confused him as much as it has everyone else. His identity crisis is evident on tracks like ‘Underdog,’ a ballad that begins with Wale claiming he’s ‘Just tryna be like the n—-s that came before us,’ and concludes with him saying, “I ain’t saying I don’t f— with all these other n—-s/ I’m just saying I’m above all these other n—-s.”
