Chicago rapper Fredo Santana reportedly has passed away on Friday (Dec. 19). A cause of death is unconfirmed, but according to TMZ, the 27-year-old rhymer died from a fatal seizure.

Producer Maxo Kream, a longtime collaborator and friend of Santana, confirmed the sad news on his Instagram page. "Damn man I’m lost for words right now I’m cryin my ass off Fredo I love yu Bitch RIP a real Savage," he wrote.

Santana, whose real name is Derrick Coleman, was among a wave of Chicago rappers, alongside his cousin Chief Keef and others who ushered in the drill music scene in 2012. In addition to being Keef's right-hand man, he also started his own label, Savage Squad, and dropped his debut album Trappin' Ain't Dead in 2013.

In October 2017, Santana was rushed to the hospital with liver and kidney failure. Most people speculated that the rapper's lean usage was the major cause of his complications. Santana seemed to confirm this with his announcement that he might do a stint in a drug rehabilitation program.

"Hopefully I can be the face to sho niggas to slow down an we got our whole life ahead of us fuck being rock stars gettin high I got ptsd," he revealed. "I was running from my old life tryna get high didn't want to face them demons...I'm getting help I might just go to rehab."

Among hearing the sad news of Santana's death, the Chicago rap community, fans as well as other fellow rappers like Lil Durk, Drake, Wale, Lil B, Royce da 5'9", Rich the Kid and others went on Twitter to pay tribute to the fallen rhymer.

"This one fucked my head up i can’t even lie. Rest up young king," Lil Durk tweeted. Rapper Wale wrote, "Fredo , God Bless ya life. God be with you. Infinite prayers for you and your family . Rest well young brother."

We want to send our heartfelt condolences to Fredo Santana's family and friends. May he rest in peace.
