Mary J. Blige Not Accepted Into Howard University Afterall?
In an interview with the ‘New Orleans Time-Picayune,’ Blige said “I just received my high school diploma yesterday [Monday]. The city of New York gave me my high school diploma … and now Howard University has accepted me.” However, when the Washington Post contacted Howard University regarding Blige’s acceptance, the fabled institution had a different story to tell.
“We encourage Ms. Blige to continue her studies and welcome her consideration of Howard University in the future,” a Howard rep said. “We are happy to work with Ms. Blige on completing the formal process for admission.”
Blige has since tweeted in defense of her statement, claiming she has a framed acceptance letter in her possession. “For those of u that who think I would lie about being accepted in2 Howard, I have all the proof and the acceptance letter,” she wrote. “Oh and my diploma, sits in my living room next to the acceptance letter, that I framed! I’m proud of my self, I should be at this point!“
We’ll report with more information as the story develops, but as of now the only explanation — if both Blige and the university are correct — is that the R&B diva has been the victim of a cruel joke.
