When a legendary artist like Raphael Saadiq is guiding your career, you're in pretty good shape. Just ask singer-songwriter Adrian Marcel, who burst onto the scene this year with the mid-tempo groove '2 AM' featuring Sage the Gemini. Clearly, the 24-year-old singer is off to a pretty good start with one summer banger under his belt.

Now he's showing his softer side with the romantic ballad 'Spending the Night Alone.' On the guitar-licked ode, the Oakland crooner is honest about missing his girl and does his best to convey that he's tired of spending nights by himself.

'It's hurting me when she's not near / My love it bleeds, I need her here / I'm not complete, no, she's my air / She got me laying here by the phone / I can't keep spending the night alone / I've got all I could ever want, but it just ain't enough if it ain't you baby," he sings.

Written by Rico Love and produced by Jim Jonsin, the song is void of raunchy lyrics and overt sexual talk. 'Spending the Night Alone' has a grown-and-sexy feel and could easily be played during any Quiet Storm radio segment but still sounds contemporary enough to serve as the soundtrack to any midday moments.

Fans will have to be satisfied with the heartfelt song for now and continue to play '2 AM' because Marcel's debut album isn't due out until 2015.
