2 Chainz Discusses Inspiration for ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’ Album Cover
When 2 Chainz unveiled the cover art for her his Def Jam debut album, Based on a T.R.U. Story, the Internet went wild over its understated sophistication. Simply, the rapper featured two gold chains on a black background. Now he’s discussing the inspiration behind the project’s cover.
Shot by photographer Fabien Montique, the cover, which can be seen below, was designed by Kanye West’s DONDA design team.
“This is one of these rare occasions when you can judge a book by its cover,” 2 Chainz tells Hip-Hop Wired. “The music is as dope as the art work. I want people to always expect the highest quality of music and artistry from me. This includes something as simple as the album art.”
In an interview with The BoomBox earlier this year, 2 Chainz spoke about what fans can expect as far as production on the forthcoming LP.
“I may talk about some producers, but I’m gonna have some elements of surprise on the album,” he shared. “Of course I’m workin’ wit my Drumma Boys, my C-Notes, my Lex Lugers, my Mike Wills, plus this new generation, the new people that I’m working with as well. It’s a well-put together project. It’s conceptual, and you should be looking out for some new dope visuals too.”
The former Playaz Circle member‘s album debuts Aug. 14. Tracks “Riot” and the Drake-assisted “No Lie” are set to appear on the effort.
