An old-school soul great with plenty of new-school friends and admirers, Betty Wright has teamed with the Roots to record her first solo album in a decade.

Next Tuesday (Nov. 15), the 57-year-old Miami-based singer, songwriter and producer drops 'Betty Wright: The Movie,' a collection of songs she co-wrote and co-produced. In addition to the Roots -- whose drummer, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, served as a co-producer -- the album features contributions from rappers Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne and British songstress Joss Stone.

Explaining the record's title, Wright says in a press release that she considers herself a "griot" -- a type of West African wandering storyteller.

"You can usually see what I say," she says. "I decided that each song would be a vision that you could take to the screen ... 14 songs equal 14 movies."

Wright started singing at the age of three, when sbe joined the gospel group the Echoes, and over the course of her long career, she's scored 11 top 30 R&B hits and earned 15 Grammy nominations. Her signature song, the 1971 smash 'Clean Up Woman,' has sold more than a million copies.

Listeners not yet born in the '70s likely know Wright for 'Play With Fire,' her duet on Weezy's 2008 triple-platinum 'Tha Carter III' album.
