This year's American Music Awards belong to Eminem as the Detroit rapper tops the show's nominations with five nods. The nominations were announced Tuesday (October 12) at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles.

Em snagged nods for Favorite Male Artist in the Pop/Rock Category where he will go up against Justin Bieber and Usher. In the Favorite Album and Artist of the Year categories Em faces off against Bieber once again and pop singer Katy Perry. He will go up against B.O.B. and Drake for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Male artists and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. Drake and B.O.B. both snagged nods for their debut albums, while Em's nominated for his seventh studio album 'Recovery.'

In what has turned out to be an excellent comeback year for Usher, the 31-year-old, who has also been confirmed as a performer at the ceremony, was nominated in three categories including Favorite Soul/R&B Male where he will go up against Chris Brown and Trey Songz. Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Sade all received nods for Favorite Soul/R&B Female and Favorite Soul/R&B Album.

For the fourth year in a row winners will be determined by online voting at the official Coca-Cola voting location at AMAvote.com as well as AMA.ABC.com. The 38th annual American Music Awards will air live November 21 at 8PM EST on ABC.
