Hours after being taken into custody for suspected marijuana possession, it has been revealed that ecstasy found in T.I.'s vehicle was the reason behind his and his wife's arrest Wednesday night. According to TMZ, a source at the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department disclosed that T.I., born Clifford Harris, and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Cottle may have been in possession of the methamphetamine when they were pulled over in West Hollywood.

The BoomBox spoke with a representative for the Los Angeles Sherrif's Department who substantiated the drug claims. "He was found to be in possession of a controlled substance," Officer Nicole Nishida told us. "Pills resembling ecstasy were found [but have] not been confirmed yet." Nishida also stated that both T.I. and Tiny were released from custody early this morning after posting $10,000 bail.

Tip was originally pulled for making an illegal U-turn on Sunset Boulevard Wednesday night. Officers noticed the smell of marijuana in the car prompting them to search the vehicle, a Mercedes Maybach sedan. The couple was taken into custody and booked under federal possession of a controlled substance.

This latest arrest may throw a wrench in Tip's attempts to stay on the straight and narrow following his release last year, from federal prison, stemming from gun possession charges. The 29-year-old is due to appear in the Beverly Hills Municipal court Friday (Sept. 3). If convicted, he may face a year in prison.

At press time T.I.'s lawyer did not respond to a request for an interview.
