Tennis champ Serena Williams is having a great professional year, having recently won her fourth Wimbledon title and 13th Grand Slam tournament. But her personal life isn't as stellar. The athlete, who had been dating rapper Common for more than a year, was suspected of having broken up with the Chicago emcee after he arrived to the movie premiere for 'Just Wright' without her on his arm, and now, she's breaking her silence about the split.

"His schedule is actually worse than mine," she told Harper's Bazaar. "He didn't want the responsibility. It's really tough." She continued by bringing up an incident where she saw him singing her praises in an interview to Access Hollywood post-breakup. "So I called him and I was like, why are you saying all of this stuff when we're not together?"

Though they rarely went public with their relationship, their fling dates back as far as 2007, when Serena appeared in the music video for 'I Want You' next to guests like Kanye West, Derek Luke, Kerry Washington and Alicia Keys, who starred as Common's girlfriend in the clip. Serena admitted to her relationship with the rapper in late 2009 after a bouquet of roses arrived during an interview with the Telegraph, stating, "He does his thing; I do mine. Maybe we'll meet somewhere in between."

Common was recently busy promoting his film with Queen Latifah, 'Just Wright,' which hit theaters this past May. He also released a few mixtapes to coincide with the film's release, and dropped a "best of" collection dubbed 'Go! -- Common Classics' this past May. His next album, 'The Believer,' is said to include production from West and No I.D. and is expected to be released later this year.
