Wyclef Details ‘The Day After’ in New Track for Haiti

WyclefAs the anniversary of the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti just passed the six month mark, musician/activist Wyclef Jean continues to bring the devastation in his home country to light. Clef has penned a new single titled ‘The Day After’ that poetically details the dilapidated remains of his home country and is expected to appear on his upcoming album, ‘The Haitian Experience.’

‘I found myself walking into an apocalypse in the city of Port Au Prince, picking up the dead,’ he sings over an acoustic guitar. ‘She was only 14 when we dug her from the rubble/she lost a mom and a sis but had the will to survive.’

Aside from giving a graphic account of his experience the track was also created in an effort to bring awareness to the living conditions and needs of the citizens to increase aid. “I don’t think he intended to write the song,’ said Sam Jean, Wyclef’s brother and spokesperson for his Yele-Haiti non-profit organization. “The song sort of wrote itself.” In the days following the earthquake Wyclef traveled back to Haiti to assist in relief efforts. Through Yele-Haiti, he raised $1 million in just 24-hours via text message donations and has since been relentless in his quest to continue to raise funds. It is estimated that more than 200,000 people were killed by the 7.0 earthquake on January 12 and another 1.6 million citizens were left homeless.
