Drake might not have been scheduled to perform at last night's BET Awards, but he was supposed to be a focal point of the show. The Toronto native had been nominated for twelve awards, and had been scheduled to make an appearance to collect his potential hardware on stage.

And then suddenly, he decided to bail.

Rumors began circulating hours before the show itself that Drake had cancelled his appearance on the show at the last minute. According to the sources being questioned, Drake had made this decision because he did not want to engage in a potential confrontation with Chris Brown, who was one of the scheduled performers for the show.

Drake and Brown have a beef that took a turn for the worse during an infamous nightclub skirmish in New York City. It is also worth noting that Rihanna, Brown's on-and-off girlfriend and the supposed source of tension between the two, also did not show up to the BET Awards.

However, by the end of the night, Drake decided to explain his absence from the show using social media. According to the Toronto native, he was busy wrapping up his upcoming album, 'Nothing Was The Same.' He thanked the fans for helping him win the Viewer's Choice Award for lead single 'Started From The Bottom,' and congratulated Kendrick Lamar for the awards that he won.
