Wale Drops ‘The Followers’ After Meek Mill’s ‘Hating’ Comments

Meek Mill is terse and guarded in his interviews, and Rick Ross usually skates over pointed questions in his coolheaded “boss” character. Wale is arguably the most transparent of the crew, so some eyes naturally shot to him for a response to Meek’s comments regarding Wale’s “hating” ways. That came in an Instagram post and a song released soon after the drama, ‘The Followers.’

In his Instagram response, Wale acknowledges he doesn’t fit into the hood-tested tropes his affiliates do and how he tries to represent Maybach Music Group’s “lighter side.” That’s not a PR statement. Over soulful, boom bap style production, Wale drops some punchlines while fitting in some real talk moments on his new song.

“Life’s a lemon so why make it a Kool-Aid / Hold your bread, it’s not what you getting, but what you save / Hold your head like in a blizzard rockin’ a toupe,” he raps.

In a follow-up Instagram post, Wale reveals that the new track is the direction he’s going in for ‘The Album About Nothing.’ There’s no release date confirmed, but the rapper has said it’s dropping after Meek Mill’s next album, ‘Dreams Worth More Than Money.’ In other words: Sometime after Sept. 9.
