Wale Responds to J. Cole’s ‘False Prophets’ With ‘Groundhog Day’ [LISTEN]

J. Cole opened up a can of worms when he threw shots at Wale and Kanye West on “False Prophets.” Cole’s harsh words to the revered rappers whom he felt have fallen from grace had everyone talking on social media.

On Saturday (Dec. 3), Wale delivered “Groundhog Day,” one of his most honest songs to date. Rapping in a conversational tone, the DMV rhymer discussed a myriad of topics including his early struggles in the rap game, dealing with his bipolar disorder and thoughts of suicide.

I'm heavily flawed," he raps. "But far from a false prophet. I'm a muf---ing honorable Folarin, Cassius, Muhammad, McGregor, Conor of these rap artists."

Wale then explores his estranged relationship with J. Cole. “The most highly underrated of my generation. Behind them crooked smiles, n----s neglect to embrace me,” he spits, referring to Cole’s song from Born Sinner.

"I remember me and Cole would open for Hov," he adds. "Everyday a star is born, I guess I died in the womb / I ain't make it on Blueprint, so made me a blueprint / You got you a nice watch, my minutes was finished."

On Twitter, fans praised Wale for addressing J. Cole's grievances through song as opposed to jumping on social media and posting a rant.

"Cole didn't diss Wale, Wale didn't diss Cole Both just kept it 100 with another like grown men through music. I dig it," tweeted one fan. Another person wrote, "Wale is one of the most scrutinized rappers. He's spreading knowledge and authenticity through dope lyrics. How can you hate that?"
