Wale Brushes Off Kid Cudi Comments
Wale is responding to comments Kid Cudi made about him and his "simple a-- rapping." Wale called DJ Drama's Shade 45 radio show to explain that he meant no harm by taking the initial jab at the 'How to Make It in America' star in the freestyle 'Thank You' in which he references his altercation with an audience member during a concert earlier this year.
"It's a line, a freestyle," Wale explained. "I could use your [DJ Drama] name for a metaphor. It's just a rap. It wasn't no malice out of it. It is what it is. That's what rappers do we make lines. Nine out of 10 rappers wouldn't take that as a diss." But Cudi did take the line "thrownin' round wallets like the dude that Kid Cudi hit" as a diss and lashed out at Wale in a Complex Magazine interview, even accusing the D.C. rapper of lying about his friendship with Kanye West when it didn't result in any musical collaborations.
"It's obviously something behind all this," Wale theorized. "Ye's a good dude or whatever but I don't recall making too much of an effort to work with anybody." Despite Drama's probes to get Wale to attribute Cudi's behavior to his admitted cocaine use, the D.C. native steered clear of bringing up the confession, opting to focus on his record deal and new and improved demeanor. "I'm signed to Roc Nation. It's great producers. It ain't really all that deep. This ain't 2001 where the producer is the end all be all. People know I'm a hot head, I've been a hot head in the past but its a change of scenery. The love is in an abundance that it's never been before."
Judging by Cudi's questionable antics over the last few months -- drug use, arrest, and revealing that he has a baby he's been keeping under raps -- it seems that the 25-year-old is going through some things. Hopefully Wale's attempts to defuse the beef will help calm Cudi down as he preps the release of his sophomore album 'Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager,' due out in November.
