Tuesday night (Nov. 29), word spread throughout various news outlets that reggae entertainer Vybz Kartel had escaped from a Jamaican prison. Though users of social networking platforms ran with the story, the Jamaica Observer reports that the 'Clarks' crooner is still behind bars.

The initial story described a prison break that included Kartel, who was locked up for two murder charges, and seven other inmates. They allegedly held guards hostage at gunpoint shortly at 1AM, stole uniforms and a vehicle belonging to officials before escaping from New Horizon Adult Remand Centre.

"I know nothing about that," Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the Observer. "If that had taken place I would would certainly have known."

Law enforcement officials at a nearby police station -- Denham Town -- revealed that they were also unaware of Vybz Kartel's jail break.

"It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don't need to spread rumours to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time [sic]," an officer stated.

The 35-year-old 'Ramping Shop' creator went to prison in October, after reportedly shooting Barrington "Bossie" Burton on July 12 in the Kingston suburb of Portmore and murdering Clive "Lizard" Williams on Aug. 12.
