A family friend of Usher may have been responsible for the jet ski accident that left his 11-year-old stepson brain dead, according to the New York Daily News. Police are reportedly investigating Jeffrey S. Hubbard, who they believe was piloting the vehicle that hit Kile Glover -- son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster -- in the head on Saturday (July 7) in Atlanta.

The accident took place in Lake Lanier, and along with Kile, who was pulled from the water responsive, an unidentified 15-year-old girl was injured. Both had been riding in inner tubes pulled by a boat and were taken to Child's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

"One minute the jet ski was running around, the next he ran over the top of them," said Sgt. Mike Burgamy of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. "It happened that quickly."

"It appears the watercraft did strike both juveniles, with the male taking the brunt of the force," he added.

Authorities believe that neither alcohol nor mechanical failure are to blame for the mishap. Despite their frosty relations since divorcing in 2009, Usher and Foster have come together to be at Kile's bedside. Amid condolence tweets from the likes of Fantasia and Russell Simmons, the mother has thus far given only a short statement to Radar Online.

"He's bad," she said.
