Uncle Luke Movie Headed to Sundance Film Festival

2 Live Crew‘s infamous hype-man Uncle Luke is about to bring some Miami heat to Utah’s Sundance Film Festival. According to NBC, Luther Campbell has been working with South Florida-based filmmakers and Miami’s Borscht Corporation to create one wacky autobiography.

“They better get ready for a lot of booty-shakin’ up there,” Luke told reporters at a Wednesday (Jan. 12) press conference. ‘The Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke’ is a cartoonish interpretation of Campbell’s young adult life in Miami, covering everything from drugs and sex to murder.

“It’s funny, it’s weird. It’s Miami-style, very playful,” the film’s young director Jillian Mayer says of her colorful set design and cardboard cutout world.

For a short film, going to Sundance is one huge honor. “Anytime you go to an event like Sundance, you get to rep Miami and show there’s a lot of talent in Miami,” the rapper said of his hometown.

As The BoomBox previously reported, Uncle Luke has been pretty vocal about fellow rappers’ abuse of Miami’s hip-hop scene. “I’ve got a message for Lil Wayne, his Cash Money Brothers, DJ Khaled, Puff Daddy and all the rappers from other parts of the country who now live in Miami,” he tells the Miami New Times. “I’m tired of seeing these cats using up our beaches, soaking up our sunshine, taking over the nightclubs, and sleeping with our women without investing anything into the community.”

The former mayoral candidate garnered a lot of flack for his statements, but one thing is for sure — he’s pretty proud of his sunny southern city. Check out the movie trailer right here.
