Timbaland Says Missy Elliott’s New Album Will ‘Change the Game’

It’s been a while since anyone other than Nicki Minaj has had a legit claim to best female rapper in the game. One of the last to do so is Missy Elliott, who’s long overdue for an album. Timbaland promises that a Misdemeanor classic is on the way.

The super-producer told Rolling Stone that the long-awaited album is going to be a game-changer. “It’s coming,” Timbaland says. “It’s on her. She got the first single, it’s just a matter of when she wants to do it. We got the hollow-tip bullet in the gun. We have the gamechanger right there.”

Is Timbaland exaggerating? Perhaps. The record shows that Timbaland reaches some of his greatest moments of brilliance with Missy Elliott — see ‘Get Ur Freak On‘ and ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ for examples. But their 2012 singles ’9th Inning’ and ‘Triple Threat’ barely made a splash. Her last LP, ‘The Cookbook,’ dropped in 2005, and featured songs like ‘Joy’ and ‘Partytime.’ — both produced by Timbo.

Timbaland could be overhyping the release, too. He called his upcoming solo album, ‘Opera Noir,’ his grande finale and revealed there would be no features on it. Timbaland also said ‘Opera Noir’ would be “his ‘Purple Rain.’” So the man is aiming high to say the least.

On a related note, that Missy Elliott comeback may be soon. She made a surprise appearance during Pharrell’s performance at the BET Awards earlier this year.
