When The Weeknd, who was scheduled to perform at this year's MTV VMAs, was a no-show, there was no immediate explanation given as to why.

But now TMZ reports that the singer, who was nominated in five categories, was absent due to tour fatigue, saying that the Toronto megastar has "been on the road for a prolonged period of time" and that he "felt differently in the days before the show." The Fader reports in addition to the VMAs, a corporate gig in Los Angeles on the preceding Friday night was also pulled.

The Weeknd's Starboy: Legend of the Fall Tour has been packed with dates. Phase 1 of the tour ended in June, with stops across North American and Europe. Phase 2 is scheduled to kick off next month with a 32-city run. This go around, he'll be joined by Gucci Mane and XO-signee Nav on the tour.

As of now, reps for The Weeknd have not commented on the missed VMA date.
