KTLA reports that a suspect has been arrested in the Kid Cali murder case.

The news station reports that the Los Angeles Police Department announced yesterday (Sept. 13) that a 19-year-old Inglewood man, Kenny Birdine, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. The arrest took place on Saturday (Sept. 10), according to inmate records. His bail is set at just over $3 million.

According to the LAPD, the killing was gang-motivated, though as of right now, that's all the information that detectives are willing to release, as the investigation is still ongoing.

Kid Cali (Justin Lishey) was killed at a pool party back on Aug. 20. Kid Cali was at a party hosted by Kid Red in the Granada Hills section of Los Angeles when a gunman shot Cali six times and escaped on foot. The 28-year-old rapper was rushed to Holy Cross Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two other associates were also shot.

As we previously reported, Kid Cali was once signed to Desean Jackson’s Jaccpot Records but parted ways. Cali  previously recorded tracks with Kid Red, Nipsey Hussle, Omarion among many others, and upon hearing the news of his death, singers and rappers from the R&B and hip-hop community went on Twitter to send their condolences.

“Regardless of our Misunderstandings you was still a good homie and brother I jus can’t believe it had to be you so soon,” Desean Jackson wrote on his Instagram page. Snoop Dogg wrote, “Rest well young g.”

Cali left behind a young daughter and had another child on the way.
