When Run of Run-D.M.C. proclaimed himself the “King of Rock” back in the days, he made a bold statement. Now, decades later, rap has arguably usurped rock as the most popular sub-genre of pop music -- but that doesn’t mean that hip-hop heads don’t have anything common with their head-banging counterparts.

Take Talib Kweli for instance. His name is synonymous with hip-hop and lyricism but for his Off the Record performance he covered one of his favorite rock songs, Iggy Pop and the Stooges’ ‘Search and Destroy.’ Kweli, a movie buff, cites the song’s use in films like 'Almost Famous' as the key inspiration for covering it -- because nothing says “action” and “rebellion” quite like this Stooges song does.
