Hip-hop fans rejoice! De La Soul has released their mixtape 'Smell the Da.I.S.Y.' featuring beats by the late and great J Dilla. As far as we are concern, De La and Dilla go together like peanut butter and jelly.
De La Soul and J Dilla have collaborated numerous times before the late producer’s death in 2006 from Lupus. So it’s good to hear the trio spit over a rare Dilla instrumental on their just-released single, 'Vocabulary Spills.'
The gifts keep coming from De La Soul. The trio gave away their whole catalog for free on Valentine's Day and now to commemorate the release of their debut album '3 Feet High And Rising' they've dropped a new take one of their classics with a J Dilla twist.
New hip-hop fans have had to go through extra measures to get to De La Soul's earlier work because they aren't available on iTunes or Spotify due to sample clearance issues. That's going to change tomorrow (Feb. 14). The group will release its entire catalog for free on that day before dropping new material, according to Rolling Stone.
