T-Pain Replaces Katt Williams as Host of BET Hip-Hop Awards
Atlanta was the backdrop for the BET Hip-Hop Awards taped this weekend without comedian Katt Williams as its host. Instead, rapper turned "singer" T-Pain took over duties. While rumors have been swirling all weekend over why Williams did not attend the award show, no official reason has been confirmed.
According to BET's blog, Executive Vice President, Stephen Hill said that Williams was a no show because he lost a bet. "So we were all hanging out last night and Katt bets T-Pain couldn't beat him in a break dance battle. Not knowing T-Pain was an extremely DOPE break dancer, Katt thought it was an easy win. T-Pain said ifI win, I get to host the Hip-Hop Awards." Other theories behind why Williams did not host was due to a financial dispute between the comedian and the network, or that he was possibly arrested early Saturday morning.
Either way, the show went off without a hitch. T.I., who was arrested right before last year's show, performed with Ludacris and Swizz Beatz. The network also took some time out to pay tribute to female emcees in a performance that included YoYo and Salt-N-Pepa. The night's big winner was Lil Wayne, who took home four awards, including the Lyricist of the Year award. The show will air on BET on October 23 at 8:00 p.m.
