T.I. recently gave props to a youth football team in Cahokia, Ill., for taking a knee during the national anthem.

The eight-year-old players of the Junior Comanches football team kneeled during the anthem before a game on Sept. 17. This was done in protest over the not-guilty verdict of former Ohio police officer Jason Stockley who shot and killed a black man in 2011. Protests in the city over the unjust killing, sparked by a new verdict, have continued for days.

According to TMZ Sports, the team’s coach said that the players came up with the idea and the parents and coaching staff supported the kids' right to protest.

When asked about the protest, Tip saluted the parents for allowing their children to express themselves on the field. "I think parents are just supposed to support the passion of the child,” he said.

Some critics have argued that politics should be left out of sports altogether. T.I. disagrees with that.

“If it affects the people and it’s oppression then [athletes] should be able to use their platform to fight against it.”

We can’t argue with that. Check out the Junior Comanches football team's protest below.
