T.I. Gets 11 Months in Prison for Probation Violation

A federal judge ordered rapper T.I. to serve 11 months in jail for violating the terms of his probation. The sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Charles Pannell Jr., Friday (October 15) afternoon, came as a result of Tip’s arrest last month where he was found to be in possession of ecstasy.

The 29-year-old was represented by a team of six attorneys, including well known Atlanta defense attorney Steven Sadow. As previously reported, Tip’s attorneys were pushing for a sentence of 5-14 months versus the 8-14 months sentence recommended by his probationary officer.

Tip and his wife Tameka ‘Tiny‘ Cottle were on Sept. 1 after making an illegal U-turn on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. After being pulled over, police reportedly smelled what they believed to be marijuana, prompting them to search Tip’s Mercedes Maybach, which turned up ecstasy pills. The two were taken into custody and later released on $10,000 bail. The Grand Hustle labelhead, who was on probation for a federal weapons possession charge back in 2007, was released to a halfway house last December after serving seven months in an Arkansas prison.

Ironically T.I. recently found himself in the news for helping police in stopping an Atlanta man from jumping to his death. Despite some media fodder to the contrary, he maintained that talking the man down was not a publicity stunt. This latest setback puts a dent in T.I.’s career plans, which include the release of his album ‘King Uncaged,’ which has no official drop date.

At press time, Sadow, T.I. lawyer would not comment on the matter.
