Shia LaBeouf Directs Video for Indie Rapper Cage

Transformers‘ actor Shia LaBeouf has directed the first video for indie rapper Cage‘s upcoming release ‘Depart From Me.’

The star actor has been a longtime fan of the upstate New York MC, who hit the scene with his ‘Clockwork Orange’ sampling single ‘Agent Orange,’ in 1997, then faded into relative obscurity after a brief spat with an up-and-comer named Eminem.

As Cage’s work became more rock influenced, he caught LaBeouf’s ear. The actor decided to document Cage’s 2005 tour, in hopes that he might interest a studio with the footage, and develop a film about Cage’s life.

Though nothing appears to have happened on that front, LaBeouf makes his directorial debut with the video for ‘I Never Knew You,’ a video about “obsession and heartbreak,” according to Cage.

“I’m 22 and I’m directing my favorite rapper’s music video,” LaBeouf told the LA Weekly. “This s— is better than riding unicorns.”

Check out behind-the-scenes footage here. The video premieres on May 18th on MTV2. ‘Depart From Me’ is scheduled for release on July 7.
