Sampha is finally getting his own solo moment in the spotlight. The singer/songwriter has released his highly-anticipated debut album Process, which is the follow up to his 2013 Dual EP. Sampha announced the album and a tour to follow, and the project features production from the artist himself, as well as some additional help from Rodaidh McDonald.

Sampha revealed that there are songs on Process dedicated to his mother, who fell ill and passed away. He told Exclaim: “My mother passed away while I was making the album, and by the time I finished it, she was gone. When I realized I wouldn’t be able to talk about something, I’d go to the piano and sing, and all this emotion would come out; I could suddenly feel it. In my day-to-day, I think my brain would hide things away, because it can’t handle or process so much emotion simultaneously, so for me it was that: processing grief, processing the importance of talking things through — not necessarily getting things perfect.”

If you want to catch Sampha on the road this year, he's the opener on The xx's upcoming tour. Take a listen to Sampha's brand new album here, and let us know your thoughts.
