Sam Smith had quite the ascent over the past few months. He had that 'Saturday Night Live' performance, two songs that hit Billboard's Top 10 in the country and a debut album that went platinum. Now, he's also a Grammy winner.

Smith beat Iggy Azalea for Best New Artist. The British artist was as humble as ever as he gave his short acceptance speech. The crooner's voice broke slightly as he finished his words. "I've won a Grammy!" he said, dedicating it to his mother and father.

He later beat Katy Perry and Coldplay for Best Pop Vocal Album with 'In the Lonely Hour.' He was less emotional, but no less candid during this speech. "It was only when I decided to be myself when the music started to flow," Smith said, reminiscing on his early career failures.

The British singer recently released a touching video to his song 'Lay Me Down."
