First, Sam Smith covers Whitney Houston's 'How Will I Know' and now he takes on another emo classic with Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car.'

The Brit crooner covers the 1988 song about heartbreak and escapism for the U.K.'s BBC Radio 1. His version is more soulful and perhaps less bleak than the original. "You got a fast car I want a ticket to anywhere / Maybe we make a deal / Maybe together we can get somewhere," he sings.

'Fast Car' earned Chapman the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance back in 1989. Interestingly, the 'Stay With Me' singer was born three years later.
