Gangster rapper-turned-philanthropist Percy “Master P” Miller and his son Romeo have continued their community work by donating computers to school children in one of Los Angeles’ worst neighborhoods.

The No Limit Records founder and his son recently visited L.A.’s Audubon Middle School to reward its students for raising test scores in 2011. Audubon Middle School was one of the lowest performing schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2010, with some of the city’s lowest standardized test scores. However, the school turned around in 2011, raising its academic performance index (API) 74 points.

In light of the school’s triumph, the Millers partnered with Sam’s Club to donate computers to the school’s best students.

“It’s so important to come and support schools like this that are in the heart of the ghetto,” said Master P. “These young students are our future leaders. It’s vitally important that we recognize them and help them to attain the proper tools, equipment and technology to further their education.”

Taking a break from ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Romeo explained that doing community work though his non-profit organization Urban Born is particularly important to him, due to his privileged background.

“This is extremely important to me, middle school children are at the age of defining their lives,” says Romeo. “It is necessary for them to know people care and want them to do well and sometimes when they do well, they are greatly rewarded, giving them the computers is just our way of letting them know this.”
