Kareem "Biggs" Burke, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records along with Damon Dash and Jay-Z, was arrested earlier today in a federal drug sweep. The New York Post is reporting that Burke was one of more than 40 people arrested in a federal investigation called "Green Venom" that centers around Geovanny "Manny" Rodriguez Perez, allegedly a big time drug trafficker. Another alleged culprit arrested was Matthew Stang of High Times Magazine.

Burke was arrested by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at his home in North Bergen, NJ. With the involvement of agencies like ICE and the DEA, operation "Green Venom" has led to millions of dollars in seized drug money, including 177 pounds of marijuana, from a drug network running from Florida to New York. The irony is that although Burke has long been considered Roc-A-Fella's silent partner due to his steering clear of the spotlight, the 18-month investigation involved telephone wire taps. So someone was talking.
