He's not ashamed to do a little begging in front of a global audience.

That's probably what a lot of folks were thinking when they saw Robin Thicke's performance at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards, as the singer performed his new cut 'Get Her Back,' which is all about convincing his estranged wife Paula Patton to forgive him once and for all.

And it was easy to see that he was really in begging mode, because gone from the performance were the fancy suits, the scantily clad backup dancers, and the special effects on stage. Instead, an understated Thicke sported a simple black leather jacket, matching leather pants, and a white shirt, and that's it.

Apparently, the 37-year-old crooner wanted Robin Thicke the husband, and not Robin Thicke the entertainer to perform, which gave the song a heartfelt feel, which is obviously what's needed if he's serious about getting his woman back.

As far as the lyrics to the song, Thicke didn't pull any punches when it came to expressing how sorry he is for the breakup, and he made it a point to let Patton know that he's willing to change his ways completely.

"I should have kissed you longer / I should have held you stronger / I'll fight forever until you love me again," he sang in the most sincere way possible. At least that's the way it appeared.

At the close of his performance, the singer-songwriter belted out the last couple of notes down on his knees to make the whole "baby I'm Sorry" mea culpa, and then he asked the audience to sing along to help get his wife back.

Clearly, Thicke is on an apology mission, and he's using sincere songwriting to carry it out. However, it'll be interesting to see if Patton caves in or not, because up until now she said their marriage was over for good.
