Rihanna Wants to Rock Glastonbury
Glastonbury, a massive British music festival known mostly for its arena-worthy rock acts, has opened up its ranks in recent years following a successful performance by Jay-Z. Now, his protégé and Roc Nation next-in-line, Rihanna wants that coveted headliner spot at this year's festival. She points to her love of popular and classic rock and thinks she can provide a level of showmanship that will sway the crowd.
"I'd love to play Glastonbury," said the pop singer. "I have heard so many things about what happens there. I love rock music. I love Kings of Leon and The Prodigy. You could have nightmares about that guy with the clown face and the weird hair [Keith Flint]. That's a look to scare little kids, right? But the music is awesome. I like the more traditional rock bands, too: Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I think I could rock the stage at Glastonbury, no question."
Rihanna pays most credit to Jay-Z for finally opening the festival up to new acts from hip-hop and R&B. She rightfully points out that Hov proved that the Glastonbury crowd will get behind a well thought-out performance from any genre.
"I know, since Jay-Z played, they are open to a lot more R&B. And 'Umbrella' would be the perfect song for that place, too," she concluded.
