For fans this is an internet dream come true. After a serious bidding war at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, Netflix has secured the film rights to a buddy movie starring pop superstar Rihanna and Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o.

If you recall, this movie idea was first sparked as a Twitter meme before it became a viral sensation on the internet. Fans went so far as to ask filmmaker Ava DuVernay to direct and Insecure star Issa Rae to write it. All four women agreed to be a part of the project if it ever came to fruition.

Thankfully, it appears that all of the players seem to be aboard for the project. DuVernay will direct the project and Rae is in negotiations to write the screenplay. If this works out, this may be the first movie ever conceived by the internet.

Insiders have told EW.com that Netflix won the project after intense talks from various movie studios - obviously they also saw the star power this film will bring to the box office.

As of right now, there’s no word on what the storyline will be for the movie. Several fans have suggested that Rihanna and Lupita's flick be a “scammer story” where the ladies play vixens who con white men out of their money. Some even suggested a black version of Thelma & Louise, the 1991 cult film starring Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis.

Sources tell EW.com that Rae is already penning a script and the streaming network is eyeing a production start of 2018 after DuVernay completes her current film, a children's movie called A Wrinkle in Time for Disney.
