Rihanna Attends Grandmother’s Funeral in Barbados, Calls Service a ‘Party’
Rihanna headed to her native Barbados this week to attend her grandmother's funeral. Clara "Dolly" Braithwaite, who the singer affectionately called Gran Gran Dolly, passed away June 30 following a battle with cancer.
The singer had previously attended a memorial service for her grandmother, which was held in Brooklyn, N.Y. The funeral in Barbados was a coming home of sorts and one that Rihanna touted as a "party."
#grangranDOLLY time for your party in Barbados," she tweeted several days prior. She also tweeted a handwritten note for her late grandmother. The letter read, "#grangrandolly you are going to have the best party today. #allblackerrthang! and I'm gon' try to hold it all in, try to hold back my tears."
She wore a black dress and black platform heels to the final funeral, pairing the look with a simple updo and purple lipstick, which can be viewed here.
