Rihanna has never shied away from her Bajan background throughout her career, so it isn't at all surprising that she chose to spend Christmas in her native Barbados.

Her time at home with relatives, which she shared through photos on Instagram, was full of smiles, opening gifts and lounging around. One celebratory moment was the announcement that RiRi's cousin was expecting a child. "Special delivery.....congrats to my n---- and baby cousin," she wrote.

While she played Santa, she also received one special present: her late grandmother Dolly’s leather-bound Bible as a gift. “Got my grandmother Dolly's leather backed bible with all her handwritten notes! That'll make any grown woman cry! Idc idc idc!” Rihanna wrote.

Spending time with family for Christmas caps off what has been a busy year for the songstress -- even though she didn't release an album in 2013. She embarked on the seven-month Diamonds World Tour -- which ended a little over a month ago -- and shot music videos for the twerktastic 'Pour It Up' and the minimalist 'What Now,' in addition to showcasing her vocals in Eminem's 'The Monster' visual.

The 25-year-old entertainer was also awarded the first ever Icon Award at the American Music Awards. The last 12 months proved to be a strong run for Rihanna despite the lack of musical output. However, for Christmas, she was just the girl from Barbados enjoying some downtime with family.
