Def Jam rappers Rick Ross and Young Jeezy reportedly had an altercation Saturday night (Sept. 29) during a taping of the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards held in Atlanta.

According to TMZ, the fight occurred backstage after the two had a verbal spat. The site also reports that their respective bodyguards broke up the brawl.

Witnesses heard the Maybach Music Group head and the Corporate Thugz Entertainment creator throw heated words at one another, which lead to a pushing and shoving match between them. In the past, Ross and Jeezy have released tracks taking verbal aim at the other.

There were several reports of gunfire that took place in the parking lot of the Atlanta Civic Center, where the awards were being taped. However, a spokesperson for the Atlanta Police Department said those reports of shots being fired "appear to be untrue."

BET released a statement regarding the incident.

"BET Networks works very hard to bring the best in entertainment to the city of Atlanta. For the past 7 years BET has celebrated the true art form of Hip Hop. Due to some misjudgment of select attendees, it is unfortunate that certain incidents took place. BET Networks does not condone any type of violence. Local authorities are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible."

The 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards air Tues., Oct. 9, at 8PM.
