Queen Latifah, Missy Elliott To Be Celebrated on ‘VH1 Hip-Hop Honors: All Hail the Queens’
After six years, VH1's Hip-Hop Honors is returning to celebrate women who have blazed a trail and broken down doors in hip-hop. The revamped show was announced in May, and it's not hard to see why fans are excited. ...Honors debuted in 2004 and over the next six years, Hip-Hop Honors celebrated a bevy of iconic artists including 2Pac, the Beastie Boys, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, MC Lyte, the Notorious B.I.G., Too $hort, KRS-One and more. But this year is all about the ladies.
Queen Latifah is executive producing the show and will also be among the honorees. She burst onto the scene in late 1989 with her classic debut All Hail the Queen and would go on to become one of the most iconic women in hip-hop. It has also been announced that Missy Elliott will also be honored at the show; Elliott became a fixture in hip-hop with her infectious party anthems and unique persona; bum-rushing the charts with 1996s Supa Dupa Fly and maintaining a constant presence over the next eight years.
Missy Elliott, Queen Latifah and others will be celebrated on VH1 Hip Hop Honors: All Hail The Queens on July 11 at 9 p.m. ET.
This year’s show will be live and is generating tremendous buzz on the strength of celebrating women who have broken through the male-dominated world of rap music to make their voices heard. There are expected to be more honorees announced within the week.
