Pusha T Advocates for Prison Reform in New PSA #MySentence

Pusha T has been using his platform to inform his fans and the public about an important cause, or educate others about an issue as of late, and he’s at it again.

The G.O.O.D. Music President famously endorsed Hillary Clinton earlier this year during the election season, despite being met with some criticism from fans and the hip hop community. Now, Pusha is using his voice for another major issue, which he hopes can make a change to those who are effected by mandatory minimum sentences.

ECCO and Fictionless made a new PSA, called #MySentence, which features the rapper narrating the words of Norman Brown, who is a former inmate who spent 25 years in prison based on mandatory minimum sentencing. Brown was eventually released from prison after he was pardoned by President Obama. Pusha states on his behalf, “When the judge gave me a life sentence, I had to ask myself, ‘Was I ever going home again?'”

Pusha has been pretty passionate about prison reform in the past, as he was seen hitting the campaign trail with Tim Kaine earlier this year. He also sat down to discuss the issue with Ava Duvernay for Complex, who directed the Netflix documentary, 13th, which dives into racial inequality in the U.S. Check out the PSA above with Pusha.
