The body of Prince Rogers Nelson has been cremated, according to a statement issued by the family.

On Saturday (April 23), close family and friends held a private memorial service at the late pop icon’s Paisley Park estate. Musicians such as Sheila E. and Larry Graham were in attendance to bid a final farewell to their dear friend.

Following the service, a rep for the family issued the following statement. It reads:

“A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye. Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time.”

The statement adds, "We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time. The cause of death remains unknown and it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy. An announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration."

As we previously reported, Prince passed away last Thursday (April 21) at the age of 57. The singer-guitarist's body was discovered in an elevator after his staff couldn't find him.

An autopsy was performed on Prince's body on Friday (April 22) and was inconclusive until a toxicology report is finished, which could take several weeks.

We want to send our heartfelt condolences to Prince's family and friends. He will be sorely missed. May he rest eternally in peace.
