Pharrell Williams Tapped as ‘The Voice’ Coach
2014 is already shaping up to be another landmark year for super producer Pharrell Williams. An Oscar performance, release of his sophomore solo album, ‘G I R L,’ and the No. 1 hit song ‘Happy’ add to his standing list of endeavors and accomplishments — and that’s just in the first three months of the year. Now, Skateboard P has been named a coach for the upcoming seventh season of NBC’s ‘The Voice.’
Williams will replace previous coach CeeLo Green, who left the show after four seasons. The rest of the coaching panel for the hit NBC show has yet to be announced.
Paul Telegdy of NBC Entertainment gave details on Williams’ new role. “It’s been a huge year for Pharrell, with recognition for his contribution in the world of music — the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise soundtracks, his Oscar-nominated song ‘Happy’ and his Grammy-winning collaboration with Daft Punk on the breakout dance hit ‘Get Lucky.’ His dominance in record sales in 2014, coupled with his incomparable accomplishments in the world of fashion and design, make him an irresistible addition to ‘The Voice’ family,” he said.
It won’t be the first time the Virginia native is involved with the hit network show. Last year, during season 4, Williams was an adviser for Usher’s team, doing such a good job that Vulture clairvoyantly stated “Pharrell should be a coach.”
The artist topping the Billboard 100 sent out a Twitter update illustrating his enthusiasm and excitement.
