With confederate statues and monuments being taken down across the nation, residents in Dallas now want to see one Confederate park to be renamed in honor of Dallas native, Erykah Badu.

According to the Huffington Post, a statue of Robert E. Lee was removed from its namesake park and now, more than 2,000 people have signed a petition to rename the park after the R&B singer.

Pete Freedman, co-founder of Central Track -- the group behind the petition -- explained on the group's website why the park name should be changed in honor of Badu.

“Lord knows the renowned R&B singer deserves that distinction. Hell, they already named a whole day after her down in Houston, recognizing her many accomplishments and all that she’s done to inspire young artists around the state, and somehow beating Dallas to that punch,” he wrote. “Naming a local park after her would go a long way toward making up for that misstep, for sure.”

Freedman then went on to list reasons why the park should be named after Badu, including her advocacy, her employment of local musicians and being a relatable role model for the youth.

"Seriously, this one is a no-brainer, folks," he continued. "Badu totally merits this recognition. It’s almost embarrassing that she hasn’t been given it yet, to be frank. Another, perhaps more culturally savvy city probably would’ve already bestowed it upon her."
