and DJ Premier have earned their credentials as two of hip-hop's greatest producers, creating classics with artists that include Nas, Guru, M.O.P., and CL Smooth, and now the all-stars have announced plans to release a joint project.

Pete Rock broke the news on his Twitter account late Wednesday night (June 30), writing, "Also Premiere and PR are making an album together, u heard right!!! Pete Rock Vs. Premiere! Hip Hop @ its best!! Ooohhh Boy!! I'm goin in!!" Pete Rock announced the new collaboration in response to fans' excitement for his upcoming performance with DJ Premier at the July 7 birthday party for Hot 97 personality Peter Rosenberg in New York City. "I see some of ya'll talking about that boat ride with seifer and rosenberg with premiere and myself, dats gonna be nuts!!!" his previous Tweet read.

Back in May, Pete Rock and DJ Premier teamed up for a live show in Toyko, Japan to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Manhattan Records. The two producers battled it out on the turntable at Toyko's Ebisu Liquid Room in front of a packed house.
