Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Michael K. Williams: ‘Wire’ Actor to Star as ODB in ‘Dirty White Boy’

Looks like Ol’ Dirty Bastard‘s finally going to get his moment on the big screen — in a way.

While a documentary about the fallen Wu-Tang member was released in 2009, it has been revealed that actor Michael K. Williams (best known as ‘The Wire’s gay hit man Omar Little) has been cast to play ODB in the feature ‘Dirty White Boy,’ a biopic about … a shady white manager he had late in his career.

The film centers around the “astounding” rise of Jarred Weisfeld, a 22-year-old VH1 intern who talked his way into managing the troubled rapper shortly before his tragic, drug-related death in 2004. The role of Weisfeld, who has gone on to produce several films of his own, including ‘Charlie Sheen: Hollywood Blackbook,’ and ‘Chasing Gaga,’ has yet to be cast.

The film is being produced by Lars Knudsen and Jay Van Hoy, the production team behind Mike Mills’ Oscar-winning 2010 film ‘Beginners,’ was penned by Wholphin co-founder Brent Hoff, and will be directed by first-timer Joaquin Baca-Asay, who previously served as director of photography on Mike Mills’ ‘Thumbsucker,’ and James Gray’s beautiful ‘We Own the Night’ and ‘Two Lovers.’

“We both knew full well who Ol’ Dirty Bastard was but this story completely floored us. As filmmakers, we knew that this would make a great film and that Jarred Weisfeld would offer an actor a complicated and compelling character to play,” Knudsen and Van Hoy said in a statement. “This felt to us like ‘Risky Business’ and ’8 Mile,’ with equal elements of darkness, humor, and humanity.”

While the team behind ‘Dirty White Boy’ is pretty impressive, it’s sad to see ODB relegated to a supporting role in his own film.
